Beijing Public Transport Switches to Natural Gas Buses
Foton Bus has developed an 18 meter articulated LNG bus for Beijing Public Transport Holdings, Ltd. (BPT). She indicates that she will be switching from diesel buses to natural gas buses for future bus purchases, according to reports in the Chinese press. This year, BPT will purchase 280 units of the new Foton 18 m sized LNG articulated buses.
Besides, Beijing City also plans to update its current fleet of more than 1,000 units from this year onwards. All these used buses will be replaced by new energy buses, or vehicles running on natural gas, officials of the company said, and no longer invest in diesel buses. For the articulated Foton buses, gas filling stations have already been constructed, to be put in service later this year.
Simultaneously, CNPC (China National Petroleum Corporation) has signed an agreement with Beijing City on the natural gas vehicles' promotion. In order to promote the application of natural gas vehicles in Beijing, CNPC has made a donation to the Beijing municipal government which will be used by BPT to purchase LNG buses and to construct LNG filling stations.
